Every digital camera and modern smartphone embeds hidden geotagging metadata into image files at the exact moment a photo is captured. This guide explains the technical architecture of EXIF GPS IFD tags and demonstrates how to inspect them privately without exposing your data.

1. The Architecture of EXIF Geotagging

When Location Services are enabled on an iPhone, Android smartphone, or digital camera equipped with GPS (or synced via Bluetooth), the device's image signal processor (ISP) queries satellite constellations (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, Beidou).
